Some of the most powerful companies in the world are technology giants
whose size, user base, and market share give them an outsized influence
on our lives, both online and off. People often refer to these companies
collectively as "Big Tech," but they aren't a monolith. For example,
some highly influential companies aren’t very big, and some giant tech
companies don’t have the name recognition of some smaller ones. Either
way, tech companies often disagree on controversial issues that affect
 their businesses.
EFF isn’t interested in supporting any particular tech company, large or
small. However, we are interested in how these companies uphold—or
undermine—digital civil liberties. While big tech companies can do harm
to privacy, free expression, and innovation, they can also spearhead
important advances in these areas. EFF is committed to holding these
companies to account when they hurt their users’ digital freedom, and we
also stand with them when they put their users first.
Protect digital privacy and free expression. EFF's public interest legal work, activism, and software development preserve fundamental rights.
